Restoration of magnificent fortresses

Ram fortress on the Danube river near Veliko Gradiste was built in the 15th century by Turkish Sultan Bajazit and it will be restored with the help of the embassy of Turkey. This fortress, originally named Ihram, was built in order to conquer Pannonia. Another specificity of this fortress is nearby old caravanserai originally built 6 centuries ago and it is only one preserved in all of Serbia.

Another planned project is restoration of Golubac fortress, the famous fortress on a cliff above the Danube. The first phase will be relocation of the Danube international rout outside of the fortress and creating a detour road.

The title photo that shows in the thumbnails for this website, when doing a "Smederevo Fortress" search on Google, is of Golubac and underneath it says Smederevo, so that is a bit misleading. Anyway, the fortresses that have so far been restored are Golubac, Ram, Fetislam. Medieval towers that have been restored include the Vrsac Tower, the Nenadovic Tower in Valjevo, the Watch Tower (Kula Motrilja) in Novi Pazar. The Uzice Old Town (Fortress) was also restored. Smederevo and Maglic will be restored, but at this time, it is not known when.
