Tour Flow
After #YourSerbiaHost picks you up at your hotel in Belgrade (usual start time 10am) you’ll head for the first wine stop at the village Vlaški Do and winery Despotika. For winemaking standards, this relatively young winery with ambitious plans and enthusiastic owner makes two wines from indigenous Serbian grape varieties. Those are Morava (white) and Prokupac (red). Only a few winemakers in Serbia grow Morava, so you’ll have a unique opportunity to try this white wine sort. Of course we won’t stop only with these two, there are many Despotika’s wines to taste.
From the village Vlaški do we move on to the capital of Šumadija wine region, Topola. On the slopes of Oplenac hill royal family Karađorđević nurtured their vineyards, from which they produced famous Trijumf (Triumph) wine. Royal wine cellars nowadays are state owned and they grow grapes on 11 hectares only. The highlight of King’s Winery is the original king’s wine cellar which is in excellent condition, so you’ll have the opportunity to see how the king made his wine more than 90 years ago. The biggest treasure of the Royal cellar is the old archive where they keep wines from the 1930s. You’ll only get to try modern wines, not those from the 1930s.
NOTE: Renovation of the King’s Winery is expected during the spring/summer 2024 so there might be changes to the availability of this stop.
Following this wine route you’ll reach one of the most prominent Serbian wineries from the 1990s onward. Aleksandrović winery is a modern, yet very traditional establishment which produces only high quality wines. There is an interesting story related to their most famous Trijumf (Triumph) label and how Aleksandrović continued the tradition of making this wine. You’ll hear this one while you are sipping your own Trijumf. Nowadays Aleksandrović produces more than 20 different wines, but they are best known for their Trijumf range, including sparkling wines.
Final stop on the itinerary is in rural area, a winery which is a perfect example of family wine making. Here you’ll have lunch with wine tasting and an opportunity to hear a story from the winemaker personally, who is also a certified sommelier.
After this winery the private wine tour ends and you are taken back to your hotel in Belgrade.
