Tour Flow

1st Day – Meeting, Fruška Gora and Novi Sad

After #YourSerbiaHost meets you at the airport, bus/train station or wherever we agree to meet, you will continue straight to Vojvodina region and its sole mountain Fruška Gora. Here you’ll visit monastery Krušedol from the XVI century and then you’ll continue to the town of Sremski Karlovci. Next stop is Petrovaradin Fortress, where you’ll learn why it took 88 years for the complex to be completed. Lunch and gastronomy part of the day is planned in a small wine cellar where the wine maker is also a cook. He will serve his homemade food and match it with his fine wines.

After lunch it’ll take only 15 minutes to reach Hotel Centar**** where you’ll stay overnight. You have the rest of the day free to enjoy Novi Sad on your own. Tips and recommendations will be provided.

2nd Day – Topola Town, Oplenac Royal Mausoleum and Village Home Stay

On the second day we will continue the tour towards Šumadija to the town of Topola. Renewal of the modern Serbian state commenced here in 1804. On the tip of Oplenac Hill you’ll visit the Royal mausoleum, a church where 27 members of the royal family are buried. From this point onward you are only enjoying Šumadija wine. Three wineries are on our list: King’s Winery, established in the 1930s by Serbian king, then prominent Serbian winery Aleksandrović and as a highlight of wine exploration, the visit with a local lunch and expertly paired wines at a small winery, where the owner—a sommelier and winemaker—personally crafts your experience.

Rest of the day you’ll spend in a guesthouse of one of the most reputable Serbian wineries – Winery Aleksandrović. Their guesthouse is a perfect combination of local hospitality and wine country experience.

Day 2 Add-ons
Fine Dinning

3rd Day – Zlatibor Mountain

Day three begins with a delicious Šumadian breakfast on a terrace overlooking the vineyards. After you say goodbye to your hosts we’ll take you towards West Serbia and iconic Zlatibor Mountain where you’ll enjoy pure nature. First stop is Gold Gondola, the longest panoramic gondola in the world. After the gondola ride, you’ll continue towards the rural area of the mountain. Next is Stopića Cave, then after the cave you’ll head to the village Sirogojno, where the ethnological open-air museum Old Village is settled. This will also be the place for a lunch break. From Sirogojno we move on to Gostilje Waterfall where a 20m water dropdown creates a wonderful scene and cold water makes pleasant refreshment on hot summer days.

End your day in the tranquil surroundings of guesthouse Pećinar, lovingly managed by the Pećinar family for six generations. Nestled in the heart of Zlatibor’s untouched countryside, this charming retreat offers serenity and an authentic taste of local life. Indulge in the culinary delights crafted in Mrs. Pećinar’s kitchen over dinner, where tradition and flavor come together in every dish.

4th Day – Sargan Eight Train and Višegrad

If the voices of birds don’t wake you up, the smell of Zlatibor food will. After breakfast you’ll head to Mokra Gora town. Here you’ll experience the most attractive narrow track railway in this part of Europe, the famous Sargan Eight Train. After you get off the train, you’ll leave Serbia and cross to Bosnia to visit Višegrad. The town with a famous bridge over river Drina dating from the XVI century. You’ll hear a story about Yugoslavian writer Ivo Andrić who wrote the novel with the same name Bridge Over Drina and won the Nobel Prize in 1962. Here you’ll get on a boat and take a ride on Drina River, to see the town and the old bridge from the water. For lunch, you’ll try ćevapi Bosnian way, in a local tavern.

After lunch you’ll return to Mokra Gora and to Drvengrad-Mećavnik (Woodentown) ethnic village. The complex is the creation of our famous film director Emir Kusturica. Hotel Mećavnik**** is your accommodation for the night and you have the rest of the day for yourself.

5th Day – Monasteries Studenica and Žiča, Belgrade

Departing from Mokra Gora, you will journey across the scenic Golija Mountain to reach the 12th-century Studenica Monastery. Often regarded as the most beautiful Serbian monastery, Studenica is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a true masterpiece of medieval architecture. From there, you will descend into the Ibar River Valley, also known as the Valley of Kings, named for the many endowments built by Serbian medieval rulers. Here, you will pause for lunch at a historic family-run tavern that has been in operation for over 200 years. Afterward, you will visit the 13th-century Žiča Monastery, where you’ll discover its unique purpose and learn what sets it apart from other monasteries of the same era.

Finally you’ll reach Belgrade in the evening and Hotel City Savoy**** (two nights).

6th Day – Belgrade Exploration

We’ll take you first to Belgrade Fortress, the most iconic Belgrade landmark. Then from the fortress we move to another part of the city, posh Dedinje. You’ll visit the House of Flowers, which is the eternal home of former Yugoslavian president Tito. #YourSerbiaHost will explain how Tito’s cult was nurtured during his life, but also long after he was gone. From the controversial Yugoslavian dictator’s tomb we’ll take you to a holy place, to the St. Sava Church. The biggest Orthodox Church in the Balkans is dedicated to a true saint who was born in the XII and who brought autonomy to the Serbian Orthodox Church in the XIII century.

When this part of exploration is finished we’ll take you to a restaurant in the neighborhood, where local food is prepared in a modern manner. After lunch we’ll switch to the other side of the river, to Zemun. This old part of the city was actually a separate town till 1934. Strolling along the Danube promenade or walking to the Gardoš Hill, with a drink in one of the local cafes will make you feel like a local.

Rest of the day you are free to explore Belgrade on your own. Tips and recommendations will be provided.

Day 6 Add-ons
Truffle Tasting

7th Day – Departure

On the last day of your seven day Serbia vacation package we’ll give you a transfer to the airport or bus/train station. Depending on your travel arrangement you can spend some time shopping (here is a useful link) or wandering Belgrade vibrant streets.

I recently completed a private 8-day tour throughout Serbia and I would count this trip amongst my all time favourite experiences travelling abroad. Even before I arrived in Belgrade, owner Miljan was ALWAYS immediately responsive to all my enquiries and he put together an itinerary that was perfectly tailored to all my preferences/interests. And I was incredibly fortunate to have Dejan as my personal guide/driver. From the moment he met me at the airport, I knew that I, a single female traveller, was in good/safe hands. Apart from his expert /careful driving, he treated me more like a new friend than a guide. He accommodated all of my requests and we simply HAD FUN. He is incredibly knowledgeable about Serbia and its history. Our conversations were always informative and interesting. Overall, I would very highly recommend this trip. There is so much diversity; beautiful mountains, vibrant culture, monasteries and vineyards (we visited some remarkable small wineries in beautiful settings). Another highlight was the food. We dined at wonderful local restaurants that were expertly selected. As well, given Dejan's translation, I was able to meet many locals who welcomed me warmly. So many wonderful memories of Serbia. I had absolutely NO complaints about this tour. And the owner even made a point of meeting me for lunch one day during the visit to ensure that everything was going well. Thank you Serbian Private Tours !! Date of experience: July 2022

I already want to go back. I did a multi-day (8 day) tour. When scheduling the tour, Miljan suggested adding two single day tours to the seven day tour to fit the length of my trip. These were the Monasteries Manasija and Ravanica as well as the Pearls of Hungarian Succession. Both were excellent additions and well worth doing. I don't regret a single moment of the entire experience. My tour guide was Andrija. He is very friendly and always professional. His knowledge of everything we did and saw is impressive. He taught me a great amount of Serbian history and culture. I would highly recommend him to anyone. The food was wonderful. I never had a bad meal the entire trip. Every day we ate something different and new. Every day I was stuffed. The restaurants we went to were local and authentic. None of it was part of a chain or tourist trap which I really appreciate. This company clearly has a good reputation in their community. We were warmly welcomed at almost every place we went to, with staff and owners speaking with us more like friends than customers. It really made a big difference. Overall, I would always recommend Miljan, Andrija and the rest of the Serbian Private Tours team for anyone, or group, going to Serbia. I've been on other trips, to other places of the world, and this was certainly the best. From how friendly and kind the Serbian people are to the great food, rich history and beautiful country. You will not be disappointed with booking a trip through this company.

Women’s 8 Day Hike, Eat, Drink, Laugh Tour!

The four of us just completed an 8 day tour, which we tailored ourselves to include 3 day hikes, lots of local lunches, a wine tour at a family winery (best meal yet), interesting historical sites, and a lot of kilometers! We met our guide, Andrew, at Tara National Park and we spent the next 8 days in a very comfortable van driving to, hiking, and touring Zlatibor, Uvac Canyon, Belgrade, Novi Sad, Iron Gate National Park, Rtanj Mountain, Nis, and he even dropped us off at our hotel in Skopje (North Macedonia) at the end. Andrew made our trip! He was our cheerleader on our hikes, taking amazing pictures for us! He steered us to make great meal choices of local cuisines! We always felt safe in his clean van (I swear he cleaned it every night for us), and always had cold bottled water for us from the cooler in the trunk! He was very knowledgeable of historical facts and relevance, and after tiring hiking in the heat let the car go quiet as we snoozed until our next destination! However, we also had some fun conversation, as you do with 4 older women from different backgrounds!! We really enjoyed all aspects of our 8 day tour. Our host Andrew was the epitome of Serbian hospitality and we always felt well looked after. If you book with Serbian tours, book with Andrew (Andrija) as your host. And my last hint, don’t book hikes in 40 degree Celsius August weather!!

We did a 7 day tour with Miljan and absolutely loved it! He was very knowledgeable, super friendly and fun to travel with. He organised everything seemlessly making it a relaxed and stress free holiday for us. He was very accomodating to any alterations we wanted to make to our plan (eg unscheduled coffee stops etc) and turned our holiday into a life experience with loads of great memories. It was obvious that Miljan had tailored our trip to suit our individual tastes (we were interested in local food, wine, agricultural production and recent history) and we spent more time doing what we wanted to do rather than if we had booked a group tour. Miljan's attention to detail meant that our every need was met and the entire holiday ran like clockwork. I don't think it is possible to get such a great experience when traveling without a guide. We came from Australia and we were originally going to travel around the Balkans by ourselves but we are so happy we decided to hire Serbian Private Tours instead. It meant that saw so much more than we would have if we tried to organise it ourselves and we got to meet lots of friendly locals along the way. Miljan organised local guides for us in the countries outside of Serbia to ensure we got local knowledge and a variety of perspectives on history in the region which was important to us. I highly recommend Serbian Private Tours to anyone traveling around Serbia and the Balkans. I am very happy we chose to travel with them. Thank you Miljan!

Having just compete our 8 day trip with Miljan I cannot recommend him and Serbian Private Tours enough. With only 2 weeks notice Miljan generated a completely customised tour that suited our needs. Eating and staying in locations that we would never have found if we travelled without a guide, made this one of the most memorable and informative holidays I've been on. Visiting Serbia, Kosovo and Bosnia, Miljan organised additional guides outside of Serbia to ensure we got a local experience and more importantly a balanced perspective which is particularly important considering the recent conflicts in this region. His knowledge, flexibility, and relaxed attitude made us feel like we were travelling with a mate instead of a guide yet behind the scenes each day was meticulously planned (and the car spotlessly cleaned)! He even arranged 8 days of perfect weather for us! Seriously, if you're considering a trip to Serbia/ The Balkans, these guys won't let you down.
