This tour to the Sargan Eight train is a shared, small group tour which operates only on Thursdays in season. If Thursdays are not matching your travel plans you can opt-in for the private tour, Mokra Gora and Sargan Eight train instead.
What to Expect From the Sargan Eight Train Tour in 2024
The dynamic full-day tour will take you to the west of Serbia where you’ll have a ride on unique narrow-gauge railway, Sargan Eight train. You’ll visit the unusual ethnic complex Kustendorf and you’ll have a chance to admire unique Drina River House. The house balances on the rock in the middle of the river since 1968.
Tour Flow
#YourSerbiaHost will meet you at 8am at meeting point in the center of Belgrade (exact location will be provided in the booking confirmation). During the trip you’ll travel on scenic roads of West Serbia. On our way to Mokra Gora we’ll pass through town of Bajina Bašta where Drina river house is located. Short brake for photos and coffee in nearby tavern is on the itinerary.
Upon arrival to Mokra gora you can have lunch (not included in the price) in a restaurant at the train station before getting on board the Sargan Eight train. Authentic cars with wooden seats, wood burning stove and characteristic rattling sound will take you back in 1925. That was the year when the railway made connection between Belgrade and Adriatic Sea. The track on this section is around 15km long and passes through 22 tunnels with overcoming an altitude difference of 300m.
After the ride train returns to the departing station from where we continue our tour. You’ll visit nearby Kustendorf which was built by Emir Kusturica during filming his movie „Life is a miracle“. In Kustendorf you can find, as in any regular town, a museum, a church, a library, a hotel, a restaurant… You might be surprised with street names in this town because those are named after famous people Kusturica admires: Nikola Tesla, Bruce Lee, Ernesto Che Guevara, Diego Armando Maradona, Federico Fellini, Ingmar Bergman…
After whole day of exploration of Mogra gora town and its beauties it’s time return to Belgrade. We’ll arrive in Belgrade in the late evening.
