Saturday’s walk with friends took us to the factory of hats in Zrenjanin. This family manufacture from 1919 has grown into the largest factory “Begej” in the former Yugoslavia. In seventies, factory produced sleeves, hats, berets and it had 500 employees.
These hats were made of high quality wool or rabbit hair and used to be exported to many countries, some of those wonderful hats have found their way all up to London. During the time factory became the largest manufacturer of beret caps, mainly for export. “Begej” supplied Army of Yugoslavia and many more armies of Eastern countries and NATO. Unfortunately, collapse of the factory started by breaking up of Yugoslavia.
While Begej is waiting for “tailwind”, visitor of Zrenjanin could walk to the warehouse of factory and dive among the shelves of finished products and find a fashion accessory for the head. Friendly staff will recommend the right model for you, according to the head and face shape. Among many models you can find some retro pieces which will, like a time machine, get you back to a wonderful old time.
While you are watching your reflection in the mirror, you’ll imagine yourself in some ballroom clothes. Fitting of hats will turn into great fun that puts a smile on your face. Fans of this fashion accessory will leave this factory cheerful with a smile and richer by at least one hat in their collection 🙂
